Mother Blessing Way Ceremony

What is a Mother Blessing Way and how can it prepare you for Birth and Motherhood?

Traditionally an indigenous Navajo honoring done in moments of ‘threshold’ crossing, or ‘rites of passage.’ In addition for women becoming mother’s this type of ceremony would be held for men going to battle, and young girls becoming women.

This ritual can take place in the third trimester of pregnancy. It typically is an all women identified space, multi-generational, and weaves in ancestral lineage of the birthing person. As the facilitator I take care of creating the space, structure, and flow of the day. Including invites and communication with attending participants. The intention is to take all logistics off of the birthing person, tap into her desires for this day, and then bring it to life. We sing songs, create pieces for your birth alter, release fears, and collectively hold your deepest prayers for pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.

Depending on how many attendees are present, this ritual is 3 hours minimum.

Once the threshold to motherhood is crossed, you will never be the same

This is a ritual, prayer and honoring for the Rite Of Passage from Maiden to Mother. How you relate to the world, and the world relates to you, will shift. Embodying the changes require the support of your loved ones. To remind you of your medicine, and encourage that you allow the transformation to deepen into an even greater service. Marking this moment in time can create an actual place, feeling, or visualization you go in your mind when you're feeling wobbly at your new role as a Mother.

Asking to be supported, witnessed, and held is all a part of the motherhood journey

As a new Mama, the pace of life significantly shifts and so does our capacity. It grows, but not with out the growing pains. Saying no to things that are not putting the needs of our children and our nervous systems first, is something we have to get used to. And knowing when to ask for help is huge. At a Mother Blessing Way, the whole ceremony is dedicated to the birthing Mama. The community is showing up for her needs. This can be vulnerable to have so much attention on being witnessed, and it can be a space for nurturing that part of our self that feels timid asking for what we want and need.

Collective prayers and intentions are powerful

We get to ask our loved ones to hold the vision and prayer for our Motherhood, and they get the honor to hold it with us! Asking for prayers can be vulnerable but a beautiful way to reflect on just how huge it is to carry, birth and raise the next generation. We weren't meant to do this alone, it is the Mother's path and initiation, but the transformation is felt by all who surrounds her. Asking for your loved ones to hold the prayer you are walking into is a gift for not just for the Mother-to-be, but her family, the baby in her womb, and her most cherished relationships.

Testimonials

“Demitra was instrumental in not only organizing my blessing way and getting those involved into specific roles, but her ability to hold the space during the event was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. She made all of my guests and participants feel welcome and comfortable. This includes my dear mother who had no idea what a blessing way was! Her beautiful approach made space for everyone to come exactly as they are. She created a safe container filled with tradition and grounding, penetrating love. I cannot say enough about how deeply moved I am, after the event, I feel renewed and ready to step through the portal of motherhood!” -Sarah Borchers

I would be honored to celebrate you in this way. Whether it’s your first, second or third pregnancy, each spirit coming through is asking for a embodied Mother to hold them. We create space for what needs to be witnessed, collaborate as a community of women uplifting the Mother, and be present to this miraculous moment in time.
